Brown Crocoite Crystal Grouping
Brown Crocoite Crystal Grouping from Callenberg, Glauchau, Saxony, Germany
Collection Robert Lavinsky
Description This is an extremely important specimen for several reasons. Firstly, it is pretty and rich with beautiful, sharply terminated, red crocoites to 1.3 cm. These have a form distinct from crocoite from any other more well-known modern locality. This locality, though, is not modern - pieces date back 125 years old or more, although admittedly there was a small find in the early 1970's of more specimen material here and its hard to say which this came from. Moreover, it is the largest and one of the best of that has been available, a statement backed up by comments form several longtime German locality collectors. These are true historical treasures all, that are so seldom seen most of us know them only from seeing pictures in reproductions of the old scientific books from the 1800's.
