Calomel Crystals from Type Locality
Calomel Crystals from Type Locality from Moschellandsberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Collection Robert Lavinsky
Description A very good, well-crystallized example of Calomel from the Type Locality. This important locale helped define the mercury group minerals, in the early days of mineralogy. Specimens like this are almost unheard of, on the open market. The flat-lying, euhedral crystals line a rich 3.2 cm vug, and they are waxy-to-glassy and grey. The Calomel crystals range up to about 3 mm in size, and they have excellent orange fluorescence. Ex. Pech (an old German collector), Richard Gaines (a well known US collector of superb rarities), and Obodda collection.
