Spinel mineral group

The Spinel mineral group is compromised of isomorphous isometric minerals. The members of this group intermingle with one another, within limits.

The formula of the group is:
X 1 Y 2 O 4

X = Iron (Fe), Magnesium (Mg), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Nickel (Ni)
Y = Aluminum (Al), Iron (Fe), Chromium (Cr), Manganese (Mn), and Vanadium (V)

The most common member is Spinel, which contains the minerals:

Spinel MgAl2O4
Gahnite ZnAl2O4
Hercynite FeAl2O4
Galaxite MnAl2O4

Other members of the Spinel mineral group discussed in this guide:

Magnetite Fe2+Fe3+2O4
Chromite FeCr2O4
Franklinite (Zn,Mn2+,Fe2+)(Fe3+Mn3+)2O4
Magnesiochromite MgCr2O4

There are some very rare members not discussed in this guide.
