Sort by Alphabetical Order
Group minerals in an alphabetical listing. The most common method if you want to simply look up a mineral.

Sort by Chemical Group
All minerals belong to a chemical group. The chemical group is represented by a distinctive element or compound in the mineral that makes up a fundamental part of it. Every mineral with a distinctive base element or compound belongs to a particular group. Minerals will be sorted by their chemical group with this selection.

Sort by Color
Minerals have distinct colors, but most occur in more than one color. In this method, every possible color range of each mineral is displayed based on the selection of the color chosen.

Sort by Streak
All minerals have a characteristic streak. The streak of a mineral represents a minerals true inherent color. Any specimen of a particular mineral, no matter what color, will always have the same color when crushed into a powder. The streak of a mineral is tested by swiping it against the underside of porcelain tile, and observing the color of the streak on the tile. Minerals are grouped by their streak color in this selection method.

Sort by Hardness
Hardness, which is the resistance of a mineral to scratches, is measured on a scale known as Mohs Scale. The Mohs scale ranges from 1 - 10. Minerals under this selection method will be grouped based on their hardness.

Sort by Crystal Group
There are seven crystal systems that minerals belong to. They are: Hexagonal, Isometric, Monoclinic, Orthorhombic, Tetragonal, Triclinic, and Trigonal. In this display method, minerals are displayed by the crystal system they belong to. Amorphous minerals (those that do not belong to a crystal system) are also displayed through this method.

Sort by Elemental Affiliations
Many minerals are famous for their elemental structure due to an important element or compound. With this sorting method, you can select a particular element and see all the minerals that contain that element in their structure.
Radioactive minerals, minerals containing water (H
2O), and minerals containing the hydroxyl (OH) radical can also be sorted through this method.

Sort by Dana Classification
This method is a strictly scientific sort method based on the classification numbers given to minerals by the latest edition of Dana's New Mineralogy. It is an advanced form of "sort by chemical group".
