Thick, Reddish Wulfenite from Near Urumqi, Kuruktag Mountains, Xinjiang Uygur Region, Northern China
Collection Robert Lavinsky
Description Robust, upright crystals of Wulfenite to 2 cm perched upon a crust of smaller, more fragile crystals. A rare find from this important Wulfenite mine. The color is a deep red, especially for this locality, but muted with tinge of brown. It is significant for the unusual habit and thickness of the crystals, showing an unusual extra development of the narrow crystal axis.
Locality Near Urumqi, Kuruktag Mountains, Xinjiang Uygur Region, Northern China
Dimensions 7.0 x 5.5 x 3.7 cm.
