Siderite with Galena
Siderite with Galena from Pfaffenberg Mine, Neudorf, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
Collection Robert Lavinsky
Description A fine Neudorf Galena specimen like this, with Siderites, would have been considered one of the top "holy grails" of sophisticated collectors of the previous generations, and they should be considered as such today, as well. All major collections had "a Neudorf" or desired to have one. Pieces of size and quality were always uncommon and this pristine and aesthetic piece meets both ancient and modern criteria for a major specimen. These impeccable old German classics were mined in the 1800's to early 1900's, and today are only found in old collections as they recycle. This small cab features modified cuboctahedral Galenas with good metallic luster nestled on and around Siderites - all on sparkling Quartz. The Siderites are not "just " an association. They are also of superb quality with excellent luster and an iridescent golden-brown color. They are high quality on their own merits. The Galenas populate both sides, and they range up to 2.2 cm across. The Siderites reach 1.5 cm on edge. Lazard Cahn label, circa 1930. Ex Herb Obodda.
